World Search

Word search the world's cities — enter any town or country and get a puzzle built from its own streets and landmarks.

About the puzzle maker

World Search is a free word search generator that makes the puzzle about somewhere real. Type in a town or a country — Bournemouth, Tokyo, Portugal — and it assembles a grid from that place's own roads, shops, landmarks and culture, then colours the whole thing in the national flag.

That is the difference from the word searches in the back of a newspaper. The words mean something to whoever is solving it. A puzzle built on your own town is full of streets you have walked down, which turns a time-filler into something closer to a memory exercise.

Three difficulty levels change the grid, the word count and which way the words run — Medium is a 17×17 grid of 22 words, some of them written backwards. Easy keeps every word reading left-to-right; Hard is 26 words hidden in all eight directions. There is a language selector, so the puzzle doesn't have to be in English.

It is deliberately big and clear rather than cramped, which makes it genuinely usable for older solvers, in care settings, or by anyone who would rather not squint. Solve it on screen, or print it and do it with a pen.

How to use it

A PUZZLE
ABOUT HOME.

01
Pick a place
Type any town or country into the box, or tap one of the popular cities — London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Rome, Sydney, Barcelona, Dubai, Singapore, Berlin.
02
Choose the difficulty
Easy, Medium or Hard — every one of them at least 20 words. Easy runs forwards only, Medium hides some backwards, Hard uses all eight directions. Pick to suit the solver, not to prove a point.
03
Set the language
The generator isn't English-only, so a puzzle about Lisbon can be a Portuguese one. Useful for language practice as well as for solvers who'd simply prefer it.
04
Solve it or print it
Work through it on screen, or print it out and use a pen. Printing is the point for anyone making puzzles for a group, a classroom or a care home.
05
Made to be readable
Large letters, high contrast and generous spacing. Most online puzzle makers optimise for fitting more in; this one optimises for being able to see it.
